Oilers, Sens could make Heatley deal in September
The Edmonton Oilers haven’t given up on acquiring Ottawa
Senators sniper Dany Heatley, but they’ll probably have to wait until the end
of September to complete the trade, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Sens owner Eugene Melnyk hinted to the Ottawa Citizen that a
deal could be close – Oilers GM Bryan Murray has daily talks with Heatley’s
agents – but Melnyk also mentioned that a return by Heatley would be
"doable" if "countless issues" were resolved.
For the time being, Heatley continues to keep the two
franchises waiting. Last week, the two-time 50-goal scorer invoked his no-trade
clause to block a trade that would’ve sent him to Edmonton for Dustin Penner, Andrew Cogliano and
Ladislav Smid.
