MacLean next coach of Devils?
The New Jersey Devils have got to find themselves a new coach now that Jacques Lemaire has decided to retire from the position and it would help if the spot got filled before free agents can start being signed this summer.
The New York Post is reporting that Devils GM Lou Lamoriello, who is looking for his fifth head coach in six years, will consider John MacLean, who holds the record of most goals by a Devil with 347 of them
Lamoriello is still working on the cleanup from this past season and hasn’t officially started the search yet, but he told the Post: "A priority is the hockey end of it, the Xs and Os, and knowledge of the game. It will be someone who will fit into the philosophy of the New Jersey Devils, someone who has the ability to make us better."
MacLean has been an assistant coach for the team for six seasons, a consistent presence while all that change went on above him from season to season.
Others supposedly near the top of the list are Ken Hitchcock and Craig MacTavish. A few who will likely get a look are Bob Hartley, Kevin Dineen, Mike Keenan, and Guy Carbonneau.
