Leafs’ Ponikarovsky headed to Penguins
The NHL trading deadline is 3 p.m. Eastern today and it appears that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Alexei Ponikarovsky(notes) will be pulling on a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey soon as he’s supposedly been traded for forward prospect Luca Caputi(notes) and defenseman Martin Skoula(notes), according to TSN.ca.
Ponikarovsky, who becomes a free agent at season’s end, didn’t play in the Maple Leafs’ game last night against the Carolina Hurricanes since the deal was so close.
"I didn’t think this was a deal we’d be able to do. If you’d have told me we could do it a few days ago, I’d have said no way," Penguins general manager Ray Shero said.
