Habs waiting to hear status of Koivu
The Montreal Canadiens are going into the postseason with plenty of question marks as the team awaits word on the status of three key players, including captain Saku Koivu according to TSN.ca.
Koivu, who has 16 goals in 56 points in 77 games this season, was struck on the left foot by a shot from Ales Kotalik early in Friday night’s 4-3 victory in Buffalo. He played through the injury and assisted on Christopher Higgins’s overtime-winning goal, but did not dress in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Koivu was seen was using crutches and a foot brace as the team returned to Montreal.
"They are heavy losses," Higgins said after Saturday’s 4-2 loss in Toronto. "Saku is our leader and an excellent player. Everyone turns to him and he can make important plays. We’ll miss him."
