Flyers looking for goaltender?
The Philadelphia Flyers may have a new man in the net by the time the day is over and it could be Dwayne Roloson(notes) from the New York Islanders, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.
Flyers starting goalie Ray Emery(notes) is now going to be out for the rest of the season recuperating from surgery to repair his right hip, according to the Associated Press, so the need for a goalie in Philadelphia has risen, though Flyers coach Peter Laviolette told Philly.com that he’d be totally comfortable if no trade occurred and he went forward into the rest of the year with the team he’s got right now.
The Daily News reports that the Flyers tried to sign Roloson last summer before inking a deal with Emery, who becomes a free agent this summer. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren and Islanders GM Garth Snow, who is a former Flyers goalie himself, are old pals so you can be sure the lines of communication are at least open on this potential deal.
The Dallas Stars goalie Marty Turco(notes) is also supposedly available.
At the end of the day, though, it wouldn’t be a shocker if the team ends up with backup Michael Leighton(notes) as the main man. No pressure, Mike.
