Fleury stole Game One for Penguins
Marc-Andre Fleury(notes) has been see more shots from off-ice sources than opponents, but for all the criticism, the Pittsburgh Penguins are up 1-0 in their playoff series against the Carolina Hurricanes because of their goalie, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
"He was probably the only chance we had to win tonight (Monday), the way we played," defenseman Mark Eaton(notes) said. "He stole that one."
According to the Post-Gazette, Fleury was a wall early in a 0-0 game, making great saves on Tuomo Ruutu(notes), Eric Staal(notes), Joe Corvo(notes) and Joni Pitkanen(notes) during a Carolina power play. He robbed center Chad LaRose(notes) in the second period, somehow stopping his backhander after a rebound. And he was big late, diving to make a save that prevented Staal from scoring the tying goal in the final 30 seconds.
Fleury has nine wins in the playoffs thus far. Only Detroit’s Chris Osgood(notes) has as many in these playoffs, the Post-Gazette reported.
