Petr Sykora redirected Sidney Crosby’s slap shot on a power play with 2:40 remaining to give Pittsburgh a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday night, the Penguins’ seventh win in their last eight games. Crosby scored his seventh goal to give Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead 12:24 into the second period.

Blues D Johnson undergoes knee operation (AP)

St. Louis Blues defenseman Erik Johnson, out for the season after injuring his knee during a preseason team golf outing in September, had surgery to repair a damaged ligament. Ducks D Beauchemin has knee surgery (AP)

Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He is expected to be sidelined about six months. Blue Jackets recall RW Dorsett (AP)

The Columbus Blue Jackets recalled right wing Derek Dorsett from the club’s AHL affiliate in Syracuse. Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson announced the move Wednesday night. The 21-year-old Dorsett has one goal, one assist and 56 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Blue Jackets this season. Khabibulin lifts Blackhawks to SO win (AP)
