Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet is saying that 38-year-old Mats Sundin(notes) will announce that he’s going to hang up his skates today. He just got married in August so Sundin’s world has been changing a lot recently.
The longtime captain for the Toronto Maple Leafs had 564 goals and 1,349 points in 1,346 career NHL games. The future Hall of Famer also never played for a team in the U.S., spending time with the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks as well.

Sundin also apparently said he wasn’t planning on playing for Sweden in the 2010 Olympic Games.

When you’re a big-time NHL star, you’ve got to get used to a lot of groin overuse.
Sidney Crosby(notes), who became the youngest team captain in NHL history to lead his team to a Stanley Cup championship last spring, is apparently feeling things in the old abdominal area. The 22-year-old left an exhibition game against the Columbus Blue Jackets last Thursday with tightness in that particular area.
Crosby practiced yesterday but he’s saying that he’s not totally 100 percent. It’s looking possible that he’ll miss the season opener against the New York Rangers on Friday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Not the way he wanted to start things off. And you can be sure the Penguins front office feels the same way.
