Roberts breaks leg in Penguins’ victory (AP)

Ty Conklin is heating up at exactly the right time, just when the Pittsburgh Penguins are about to venture into the great outdoors. Conklin, stuck in the minors a month ago, won his fourth in a row and Sidney Crosby set up both Pittsburgh goals to help the Penguins beat the weary Buffalo Sabres 2-0 Saturday night.

Ovechkin’s 4 goals help Caps by Sens 8-6 (AP)

Alexander Ovechkin found a constructive way to dull the pain of a freshly healing wound. Ovechkin had four goals and an assist to lead the Washington Capitals to an 8-6 win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. The Russian star, who needed stitches to close a leg cut in Thursday’s 4-3 overtime loss in Pittsburgh, scored a power-play goal 4:45 in to put Washington up 2-0.

Detroit’s Datsyuk playing like an MVP?

Add a new Red Wings name to the list of players being tossed around for the league’s most valuable player. Pavel Datsyuk has been playing like a Hart Trophy candidate for several weeks according to the Detroit News.

With his play rising to new heights during the last four games with Henrik Zetterberg out of the lineup.

Datsyuk’s latest highlight was Saturday’s one-goal, two-assist performance in a 4-2 victory over Phoenix. The victory was the fourth straight for the Wings, and Datsyuk’s play at both ends of the ice has been a huge factor.

Canucks edge struggling Ducks 2-1 (AP)

If the Anaheim Ducks are going to defend their Stanley Cup championship, they might start by cutting down on the penalties. Daniel Sedin and Matt Cooke each scored, and the Vancouver Canucks took advantage of several opportunities presented by the NHL’s most penalized team in a 2-1 victory over the struggling Ducks on Sunday night.

Kings rally to down Blackhawks 3-2 in OT (AP)

Dustin Brown scored his second goal of the game in overtime to give the Los Angeles Kings a 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night. Brown skated down left wing, cut to the net and beat Nikolai Khabibulin with a low shot at 3:31. Brown and Kyle Calder connected in the third period to rally the Kings from a 2-0 deficit and force overtime.

Shanahan’s OT winner lifts Rangers (AP)

Brendan Shanahan scored early in overtime to give the Rangers a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday night, extending New York’s winning streak to three games. Shanahan was sprung on a breakaway by Chris Drury. He skated straight down on Montreal goalie Cristobal Huet and sent a 15-foot wrist shot over the goalie’s left shoulder 1:06 into the extra period.

Flyers’ Niitymaki shuts out Panthers 1-0 (AP)

The Flyers’ Derian Hatcher scored a rare goal at a most opportune time. The defensman’s second goal this season, along with 38 stops by goalie Antero Niittymaki, helped Philadelphia beat the Florida Panthers 1-0 on Sunday. “It’s always nice to score. What more can I say?” said Hatcher, who has just 80 goals in 1,022 career games.

Booth returns to Florida lineup

Florida Panthers winger David Booth said his right knee feels 100 percent, so he’ll be back in the lineup Sunday when the Panthers play host to Philadelphia.

With Booth back, Anthony Stewart was sent back to the minors.

”It took a lot longer than I thought it would, and it was real frustrating,” said Booth, who missed eight consecutive games. “The hard work has paid off. I’m ready to go.”

Kristian Huselius made the play that got Calgary back in the game. Jarome Iginla just won it. Iginla scored two goals, including one on a power play late in the third period that gave the Flames a 5-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night. But when Huselius stole the pick from defenseman Scott Niedermayer behind the net and snapped past Jean-Sebastien Giguere to tie the game, the tide turned.
