Derek Roy’s second goal of the game with 28 seconds left lifted the Buffalo Sabres to a 6-5 exhibition win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night. Sidney Crosby scored two power-play goals and had an assist for the Penguins. Buffalo improved to 3-2-0 and Pittsburgh fell to 1-2-2 in the preseason.

Kari Lehtonen made 30 saves and the Atlanta Thrashers completed the NHL preseason with a 1-0 shutout of the Florida Panthers on Friday night. Veteran defenseman Alexei Zhitnik scored the goal on a power play late in the second period as the Thrashers ended exhibition play 5-2-0. Tomas Vokoun made 23 saves for the Panthers, who finished the preseason 4-3-0.
